About the artist

Selena Yang is a fine artist whose practice centers on Organic Utopia — a vision of a world where scientific discovery, natural systems, and human connection are inseparable. Her ongoing portrait series renders working scientists in acrylic, oil, and watercolor, embedding the molecular and cellular imagery of their research into the figure itself, treating discovery as something that lives in people rather than papers.

Raised by a research scientist, Yang grew up inside the world her portraits now document. She partners with academia, nonprofits, corporations, and individuals to bring this vision into the world, from commissioned portraits to collaborative projects. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design with a concentration in Computation, Technology, and Culture — a background that shapes her interest in making complex systems visible and human. She divides her time between California and Shenzhen.
